Mudroom Laundry Room Combo

Few of us are lucky enough to have a spacious laundry room and an organized mudroom. That’s why combining the two spaces is a good alternative, especially for smaller homes. Because the functions of both rooms are similar, it just makes sense.

Any muddy or wet clothes that come into the mudroom can go straight into the washer. A clean sports jersey fresh out of the dryer can easily be placed in your child’s nearby gym bag. The key: Making sure you have the right layout and organization to make the double-duty space efficient.

But can a mudroom laundry room also be stylish? I searched for examples that achieve exactly that. Get ready to be inspired!

Small Mudroom Laundry Room

My laundry room is pretty small, so I never thought about combining it with a mudroom. But this example from @grandelivingdesigns shows it’s possible!

Even if square footage is limited, it can be an efficient space. This example features a well-planned layout and floor-to-ceiling cabinetry. It makes room for plenty of storage, a stacked washer and dryer and even a bench.

Creative Storage and Organization

This combo from @braveelement offers everything you could want — organization, storage and beautiful design!

My favorite element is, of course, the jumbo pegboard. A DIY project, it’s made by drilling 1-1/4-in. holes into plywood, then inserting wood dowels. Also take note of the custom bench and matching washer and dryer enclosure, built with affordable IKEA counters.

Mudroom, Laundry and Workspace

I love all these mudroom and laundry room combos, but how about adding a work zone too? That’s exactly what’s happening in this gorgeous room by @oslodesignco.

A small desk fits between the laundry area and mudroom bench, creating the perfect spot to fire off a few emails between laundry loads. The drawer is fitted with outlets inside to charge electronics. Genius!

Bring on the Drama

Just because a space is functional doesn’t mean it has to be bland! I say, have a little fun with unexpected finishes and dramatic colors.

This combo space by @ericakaydesign makes a statement with olive green cabinetry and playful plaid flooring. I’m also drawn to the efficient details, like the hanging rod over the sink and the built-in cubbies for baskets in the mudroom bench.

Hide the Clutter

Because a laundry and mudroom space pulls double-duty, there’s a lot of stuff to store. Detergent and other supplies on the laundry side, as well as backpacks, shoes, purses and more in the mudroom section.

Make the room more calm by installing plenty of closed-door storage and pretty baskets, like in this room from @brass_and_oak. The clutter is hidden, making the space appear more organized.

Narrow Mudroom Laundry Room

Don’t let a challenging room shape deter you from having a functional and beautiful mudroom laundry space.

Floor-to-ceiling cabinets encase a built-in mudroom bench, making this long, narrow room by @ourchickenbaconranch easy to use and organize. I’m a big fan of the skinny cabinets that hold the broom, mop, steam mop and vacuum.

DIY Mudroom Laundry Room

It’s hard to believe a mudroom and a laundry room can fit in this compact space, but @aguadz made it happen!

By stacking the washer and dryer, they fit a storage bench and a row of hooks along one wall to serve as the mudroom. There was even room left over for a small sink and storage cabinet. You can squeeze a lot of function into a tiny room with the right planning and layout.

Garage Mudroom Laundry Room

When @the.hoss.homestead bought her house, there was no laundry room or mudroom, so she got creative. This beautiful room is actually a garage!

It’s completely transformed with black painted floors, a laundry nook with a sink, and DIY mudroom storage by the entrance door. If you don’t need the garage for parking, this is a great solution.
