14 Ideas for How to Decorate a TV Wall

Gallery TV Wall
Turn your television into a work of art by surrounding it with framed art or photographs. The asymmetrical arrangement of this TV wall by @our.home.on.greenleaf is full of vintage pieces in a dark color palette. The decor on top of the TV cabinet helps ground the wall display.
What We Like About It: “Balance is key!” says Patton. “Think of your TV as just another frame and mix different art mediums, sizes, and frame styles to create an eclectic yet balanced look.”

Minimalist TV Wall
To recreate this chic TV wall by @designwithalyssa, embrace the big black rectangle rather than fight it. A TV might look jarring in an all-white room, so she created visual balance by adding other black elements like the coffee table and sofa cushions. The floating shelf with pared-back accessories adds interest without cluttering the wall.
What We Like About It: A black and white interior will never go out of style, and the TV blends seamlessly with the two-tone decor.

Tongue-and-Groove TV Wall
Install tongue-and-groove paneling on the wall before hanging the TV. This adds texture and creates a feature-wall focal point. After installing the paneling on this TV wall by @hausofcruze, they painted it a soft sage green; try Aganthus Green by Benjamin Moore for a similar look.
What We Like About It: The greenery around the TV gives the space a fresh and clean look. Houseplants make everything better!

DIY Built-In TV Wall
A built-in entertainment center like this one from @mydivinehome creates an intentional home for your TV, adding to the room design rather than distracting. The cabinets hide unsightly media equipment, and the shelves display decorative accessories. Beauty and function in one!
What We Like About It: Custom built-ins are famously expensive, but we love that this DIY project uses unfinished cabinets and wood. You can also tackle a project like this with an IKEA hack.

TV Wall With Rustic Shelving
If you lack the budget or space for a media cabinet, hang shelves around your TV instead, as seen here in this setup by @interiors.by.bec. The rustic wood shelving and plants create a more organic space, making the black TV more palatable to the eye. With open shelving, there’s less opportunity to tuck things away, so be sure to hide TV cords for the best look.
What We Like About It: White walls and a simple rug help to balance the multiple accessories and layers of texture on the TV shelves.

Reclaimed Wood TV Wall
Hanging the TV above the fireplace is a common location that works well because the shape of the opening balances the look. To elevate the idea even more, install reclaimed wood to the fireplace, like in this beautiful living room by @shannontateinteriors.
What We Like About It: The light wood provides a welcome contrast to the black TV and fireplace and brings a lovely natural element to the overall room design.

Hidden TV Wall
Sometimes, it’s nice to hide your TV completely when it’s not in use. This clever TV wall project features sliding artwork that opens with a remote! The art is mounted on a track located inside the floating shelves and functions with a belt and pulley. Plus, you can switch out the artwork whenever you need a change.
What We Like About It: “If you’re not ready to flaunt your TV, go the incognito route,” says Patton. “It’s like your TV is playing hide-and-seek, disappearing when not in use and magically appearing when it’s movie time.”

DIY Fireplace TV Wall
Many of us are not lucky enough to have a real fireplace in our home to hang the TV above, but this project from @accentwalldesigns offers a solution. The shiplap popout houses an electric fireplace—creating the perfect cozy spot for the TV and an attractive focal point.
What We Like About It: The dark blue paint color helps camouflage the TV so it’s not such a stark divergence from the rest of the decor.

Floating Media Shelf
A floating shelf under your TV can visually anchor the wall arrangement and display decorative accessories and artwork. This shelf from @francois_et_moi looks simple, but it also conceals several cords and funnels them over to one standard outlet with the help of a cove, grommet, and power strip.
What We Like About It: A floating shelf instead of a TV cabinet is a great choice for small homes where floor space is limited.

Moody TV Wall
Here’s another example where the TV is disguised as artwork. In this moody space from @rustandtrust, two antique-style mirrors flank both sides of the TV. Along with the large black media cabinet and luxe accessories, it’s a cozy and elegant room where the TV isn’t even detectable.
What We Like About It: The large black media cabinet balances the large TV and dark mirrors. Sometimes big and bold is the best choice!

Samsung Frame TV Wall
The best TV for a gallery wall arrangement, like this one by Lark Interiors, is The Frame TV from Samsung. The Frame comes in a variety of color options, displays art with a matte screen when your TV is off and hangs flush to the wall; so it looks like just another piece of beautiful framed artwork instead of a big black rectangle.
What We Like About It: “The Samsung Frame TV is like dressing your television in a tuxedo—sleek, stylish, and effortlessly chic,” says Patton.

DIY TV Frame
Make a DIY wood frame for your TV. This one from @kristinmariehome adds warmth and makes it look more like artwork.
Here’s how to make your own: Cut 1-by-2-in. pine boards to the length and height of your TV, then cut the corners at 45-degree angles. With wood glue, affix the corners together, keep them that way with corner clamps and let them dry overnight. Fill any gaps with wood filler, then sand and stain.
What We Like About It: This DIY frame is an affordable alternative to the pricey Samsung Frame TV.

Modern LED TV Wall
Believe it or not, this high-impact modern TV wall from @Robinsons.Reno was a DIY project made with medium-density fiberboard (MDF), closely spaced vertical wood battens, LED strip lighting and cabinets from IKEA! You can see some of the process here.
What We Like About It: A feature wall like this highlights your TV, making it a beautiful focal point instead of unattractive tech.

Board-and-Batten TV Wall
Traditional board-and-batten paneling is another DIY-friendly way to dress up your TV wall. This one from @leojoseph.b looks polished and elegant while providing an interesting backdrop for the TV. Finish the look with a simple media cabinet and decorative accessories.
What We Like About It: This is a high-impact look created with materials that cost less than $100!
