How We Tested It
As a relatively new Southerner trying to get used to how humid North Carolina can be, especially during the summer, product tester Anthony O’Reilly has spent years researching different dehumidifiers for his roughly 600-square-foot apartment.
While searching for the best, Anthony looked for small dehumidifiers that made his living space noticeably less humid in a short amount of time. He wanted a quiet dehumidifier with an auto shut-off feature and a small profile that could be easily stored on a nightstand.
“For the first test, I started the dehumidifier and started a stopwatch, and I hit the time when I noticed that my studio felt more comfortable than before,” Anthony says. “As a studio owner, I don’t have the space for large appliances. That’s why I prefer small dehumidifiers that weigh 5 pounds or less and could fit easily on a bookshelf, countertop or nightstand.”
To test the noise level, Anthony turned on the Goocheer dehumidifier and walked to the other side of the room. He was impressed to find he couldn’t hear it.
