So, after getting our hands on one and sleeping with it for 30 days, we can tell you exactly what it’s like out of the package, how it feels and looks on a bed and how it holds up after washing.

What is the Buffy Cloud Comforter?
The Buffy Cloud Comforter is a fluffy, breathable down-alternative comforter. It’s hypoallergenic and machine washable. Plus, it’s super lightweight, which makes it ideal for hot sleepers and year-round use.
The comforter’s inner fibers are webbed to help prevent it from clumping up, and the outer shell is made of ultra-soft fabric that stays quiet when rubbed together. The fabric of the comforter is made up of lyocell, a plant-sourced rayon that’s smoother and absorbs moisture faster than cotton. The material is also safe for pets and kids.

The Cloud Comforter comes in three sizes: twin/twin XL, full/queen and king/California king. It comes in a single color (white), as it’s intended to be used inside of the Breeze Duvet Cover (or another duvet cover of your choosing).
The comforter has a round quilted stitching pattern that’s designed to keep it fluffy while also keeping the fill evenly distributed. The Cloud Comforter is thin, so it’s designed for temperature regulation and cooling. If you’re someone who gets hot under thick comforters or find traditional down comforters to be too heavy, then the Cloud Comforter may be the lightweight, moisture-wicking blanket you’ve been looking for. Pair it with a set of cooling sheets, like the ones from Molecule, and say goodbye to night sweats!
How We Tested It
I tested the Cloud Comforter for myself for 30 days, and here’s how it went. The comforter arrived in a vacuum-sealed package and fluffed up immediately after opening. Upon opening the package, I was impressed by how soft the comforter is to touch. Sometimes down-alternative comforters are slick or scratchy on the surface, but the Cloud Comforter is plush and doesn’t squeak when the fabric is rubbed together. The second thing I noticed was how thin the comforter is. My initial thought was that this comforter would be great for hotter climates and seasons, hot sleepers and layering. But after covering up with it, I was also surprised by how much how much warmth it did provide for its thinness.
The comforter will be quite wrinkled upon opening, which isn’t unusual. Of course, if you use a duvet cover over it, that problem will solve itself. Another thing I noticed in terms of how it looks on the bed is that it seems to run on the smaller side. I ordered a king-size comforter for my queen-size bed because I like an oversized look, but the comforter fit my bed like I would expect a queen-size comforter to fit it. That said, I would recommend ordering a size up, and if you have a king-size bed, you might be disappointed with the sizing. In fact, the sizing is my one, single complaint with the Buffy Cloud Comforter. For reference, the twin/twin XL is 90 inches by 70 inches, the full/queen is 90 inches by 90 inches and the king/Cali king is 90 inches by 105 inches.
I don’t consider myself a hot sleeper by any means, but sometimes a thick down or down-alternative comforter can trap in too much heat and feel a bit suffocating, even during colder months. I love the way the Cloud Comforter feels light and airy, but still cozy and warm. If you use a mattress warmer, like the Eight Sleep pod cover, on cold nights like I do, then you might prefer a lighter comforter to keep from overheating. My partner, on the other hand, is a very hot sleeper and prefers the Cloud Comforter to our other heavier comforter from Sunday Citizen. He finds that the Cloud Comforter keeps him from sweating and kicking off the covers throughout the night.
In the month or so that I’ve been using the Cloud Comforter, I’ve washed it twice on a cold, gentle cycle with mild detergent. The first time I washed it, I hung it to dry as recommended. The second time, I put it in the dryer on low heat for about 15 to 20 minutes. While Buffy does say not to put the Cloud Comforter in the dryer, I personally didn’t notice any issues or changes to the comforter after drying it briefly on a low-heat, gentle drying cycle.

Yes! I can’t express this enough—if you’re a hot sleeper looking for a lightweight, down-alternative duvet insert, then this comforter is unbeatable for the price. It’s also breathable and moisture-wicking, so if you do sweat, the Cloud Comforter will absorb it better than a cotton comforter.
Can you wash a Buffy Cloud Comforter?
You certainly can. You can machine wash the Cloud Comforter on a cold-cycle setting, but you should avoid putting it in the dryer. Instead, hang it to dry.

While the Cloud Comforter is by far Buffy’s most popular comforter pick, the Buffy Breeze Comforter—the brand’s truest cooling comforter—has gotten a lot of attention recently, too. Made with the same filling as the Cloud Comforter, the Breeze Comforter is designed for especially hot sleepers and warm climates. While it shares a lot of features with the Cloud Comforter (material makeup, sizing and overall look), the Breeze Comforter is significantly thinner. However, it does have some weight to it.
The Breeze Comforter is also dry-clean only, which is a huge deciding factor for me. It’s meant to be a duvet insert, too, so you can wash the duvet cover to keep your bedding clean on a regular basis. Although, I still like to have the option of washing my comforter and dry cleaning can be a pain.

I love the Buffy Cloud Comforter. It has all the features I look for in a comforter. It’s soft, breathable, washable and cozy. Plus, it’s made sustainably. If you’re looking for a lightweight, down-alternative comforter or duvet insert at a reasonable price, you’ll be pleased with the Cloud Comforter.
My only qualm with the Cloud Comforter is that it runs smaller than I’d like. I sized up to get the look I wanted. But if you’re buying for a king-size bed, you may find that the king size is a bit smaller than you’d like. I would love for Buffy to make an additional larger size or two for those with larger beds who like an oversized comforter.
